My fifteen-year-old daughter and I have a Sunday afternoon tradition of catching a matinee. Our favorite thing to do is drive downtown to our local playhouse, bumping into neighbors and friends in the process, but as it only ever has one offering, we usually wind up going to the nearest town which has an enormous complex with a huge variety from which to choose. Oftentimes, the movie line-up is so intellectually or emotionally barren that it’s simply not worth our time or gas money. But every once in a while, a little jewel comes along that practically demands that we scatter our cares to the winds and devote an afternoon to cinematic magic.

Ahh! Such is the case right now with Enchanted. It has received such rave reviews from both real live professional critics and us general folks alike that we knew we had to go and see what all the fuss was about.

And what a delight it is! With terrific talent, a happy-go-lucky musical score that found us singing it all night long, and a classic fairytale storyline, one will find it nearly impossible to wipe the persistent movie-smile off one’s face when the movie is long over. Every single minute found us giggling, laughing wildly out loud, tapping our feet and grinning ear to ear.

Wishing I was still in the theater yet finding myself at work first thing this morning, I couldn’t help but reflect on the many less-than-enchanted issues of our day. Given my job and the necessary constant contact I have with the public, I hear stories virtually all day long ranging from health struggles to over-indebtedness to marital woes to wayward teens. Let’s face it: these are interesting times, to say the least. The markets are in turmoil, wars are still raging, and homelessness and joblessness and helplessness abound.

As we enter into the Holy season, perhaps we can be especially mindful that adding a little enchantment to our days would be a very good thing. While most of us will not whistle while we work, or break into song while we vacuum or scrub the toilets-as do Giselle and her animal friends in the movie-doing either one certainly couldn’t hurt…and just might make our day seem brighter. Dressing into gowns for our breakfast of OJ and coffee isn’t exactly what we do these days either…but choosing to dress in red for the holidays rather than the stale brown or black outfit worn every other day might prove to be just the mood-lifter you’ve been looking for.

And for that persistent smile stuck on my face yesterday during Enchanted? Well, I know that others will be happier if I choose to wear it more often than not these next few weeks ahead. For the holidays can be stressful. Shopping lines can be long and credit lines can be depleted. The weather can be downright dreary. Every single person I know, regardless of job status or age or economic privilege or educational attainment, can stand to be enchanted.

So do yourself a favor. Take a little break out of your week, no matter how busy or grumpy you might find yourself. Grab your spouse or your kid or your girlfriend or your colleague. And go see Enchanted. And vow to bring even a tiny piece of the movie back with you for those who move in and out of your life.

At least through the holidays.

29. July 2012 · Comments Off on Your Favorite Gossip Girl Cast: Blake Lively in Real Life · Categories: Television · Tags: , ,

Blake Christina Lively, a favorite Gossip Girl cast member, is never new to the world of Hollywood. Born to actors Elaine and Ernie Lively in Tarzana, California, and the youngest of 5 children, Lively was indeed meant to thread a path in Hollywood belonging to a family that has been involved in the industry herself. However, Blake was not initially set on following her family’s path. Instead of getting involved in showbiz at an early age, she enjoyed a normal life in school.

As a child, Blake was homeschooled. She moved on to attend Burbank High School wherein she became a cheerleader, class president and a member of the National Show Choir. She was set on attending Stanford University until Hollywood fame came knocking at her door.

Blake’s Shot to Fame

Her first taste of Hollywood came when she starred in her father’s film, Sandman in which she portrayed the role of Trixie, the Tooth Fairy at age 11. Her biggest break took place when she bagged the role of Bridget in the teen hit movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, in 2005 opposite other famous young stars, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel. It is said that Blake’s similarity with her character in the film was so obvious that the mere act of turning in her picture already got her the part. Her amazing performance in the movie won her the Teen Choice Award for Best Breakout Actress. The success of the said film led to a sequel that stars the same cast. Lively also starred in a college comedy, Accepted, opposite Justin Long in 2006 and the film, Elvis and Anabelle in 2007 alongside Keith Carradine and Mary Steenburgen.

Gossip Girl Affair with Penn Badgley

Not long after, she got the lead role as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl. This project really cast her name in Hollywood as one of the upcoming stars of the generation. Like a chameleon, Blake was able to transform herself into the complex character she portrays in the show. Gossip Girl also paved the way for her to be reunited with childhood friend and classmate, Penn Badgley, who stars as Dan Humphrey, Serena’s love interest in the teen drama. Their rumored relationship off screen was the headline of all tabloids, but the two initially never confirmed the affair. It was only when a magazine featured photos of them on a vacation together in Mexico that Lively and Badgley came out with their relationship.

Recent Project

Many doors have been opened to Lively because of her Gossip Girl fame. She is set to star in New York, I Love You with Hollywood A-listers, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Brett Ratner. The movie is expected to hit theaters late this year.

We can definitely say that Blake has everything going for her. A member of the Gossip Girl cast, role model, and an amazing actress, she is one of the most sought after talent of this generation. There’s no doubt about it. Blake is the next best thing in Hollywood.

“Nice guys finish last”. How many times have you heard that?

If this statement were true, then the world would certainly be in a sorry state of affairs my friends.

Henry James, the 19th century author and novelist once said – “Three things in human life are important. The first is to be nice. The second is to be nice. And the third is to be nice.”

This sounds like an easy thing to do. Correct?

Well, it is not always as easy as it might seem. When we are brought into the world, our minds are innocent and our spirits clear, pure and open. We hold no prejudice, no preconceived ideas or notions, no fear or anger or mistrust of others. Over time, the opinions of others and the actions of society cloud our eyes and mind.

I want you to take the time to do the following, brief two-part exercise.

First, I want you to close your eyes and think of a time when things in your life were going well. Perhaps it is the present time. Maybe it was in the past. Be honest with yourself and look within to recall how you treated other people. Did you feel at peace with the world? Did you act by the principles of respect, brother / sisterhood, universal love and kindness towards others?

Next, think of a time when things were not going well. Perhaps your possessions were threatened (or you imagined they were threatened). You lost a promotion to someone else; or lost your job. Did you react with selfishness, prejudice, hatred or other negative emotions? Or what about a minor incident where you lost your self control on the way home from work. How did you react towards people then? Did you morph into a “finger flippin’, horn honkin’, road rager”? Did your Mr. (or Ms. Hyde) overpower your Dr. Jekyll?

Your interpersonal skills, actions, self control and self discipline will always be a huge deciding factor in whether you succeed or not.

In my chosen career path, I get to meet many people who have achieved a massive amount of success in their chosen professions and also their lives. And I always make a point to “pick their brains” to find out what helped them rise to the top.

A few years ago I had the good fortune to spend a few days with Ernie Banks, who is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mr. Banks began his career in the Negro American League and then played for nearly twenty years with the Chicago Cubs. During his career, Mr. Banks won numerous awards for his achievements and was known for his positive mental attitude. In fact, due to his positive look on life, he was given the nickname (one of many), “Mr. Sunshine”.

During his years growing up and the three years playing in the Negro Leagues, Ernie spent a great deal of time in the deep South and had to deal with racial prejudice along with the laws that segregated blacks from whites in public places and on public transportation.

In my many conversations with Ernie, I wanted to know how he stayed motivated and driven to achieve a high level of success, even when he was not treated as an equal in the eyes of others. In the course of one conversation he told me this – “I told myself at an early age that in order for me to succeed in life, I was always going to treat others as I wanted to be treated in return. I was always going to regard others with respect and kindness. I am convinced that this has been one of the reasons I was able to achieve my dreams in life”.

No matter what your current circumstances or what has happened to you in the past, commit today to treat other people the same way as you would like to be treated – with respect and kindness.

Be nice.

Finish first.

18. July 2012 · Comments Off on Daisy Tattoos – What Do They Mean? · Categories: Arts And Entertainment · Tags: , ,

Daisies used as tattoo designs? Yes, of course. Daisies have been long used in the arts, it even dates back to the Medieval and Renaissance art where daisies are portrayed in numerous paintings. At present, daisies are popular body arts’ design – that is in the form of tattoos. One of the simplest and most popular designs is the white daisy which symbolizes innocence. The white flower has been associated with children and the innocence of childhood. If you want to express your innocence, then a white daisy design can be the one for you.

Apart from what a daisy symbolizes, daisy tattoos are popular with women simply because most women love flowers. Getting flower tattoos such as tattoos with the daisy design serve as a form of body adornment for women. This design can also symbolize sisterhood, love and purity.

Daisy tattoos would still be striking anywhere you place it, daisy tattoos are versatile this way. But, this will of course depend on how the design is being done. So, you have to make sure that you go to professional artists who have passion and skill for doing this body art. But before that, decide on a design that best suits you.

15. July 2012 · Comments Off on Anger And Resentment:10 Tips And Instant Strategies · Categories: Self Help · Tags: , ,

Anger and resentments can blemish even the best of memories. All of us have wonderful childhood memories: afternoons on the garden swing spent eating fresh apple pie; Saturday morning cartoons while we ate our favorite cereal; and evenings getting tucked into bed, with wishes of sweet dreams. Not all of us, however, possess such memories: there are the bouts of anger, fights between our parents, even beatings. No wonderful childhood memories can ever make a child forget a stormy childhood; such a childhood may even lead to resentments later on in life.

Resentments can stem from anywhere: they can start in childhood, continue into the peer pressure of adolescence, and persist well into adulthood when we are old enough to bear long, deep-seated grudges. Although resentment is a fact of life, it is not necessarily the best way to live life. Resentment can eat away at our energy, making us feel lethargic and unable to perform simple tasks. Resentment can also affect our social lives: we may find it more difficult to form friendships or romantic relationships if our emotions have been stunted by an ill-formed childhood, or traumatic adolescence.

You can deal with resentment, however, by following these ten simple tips. Before plunging into these activities, you must remember that these are not the only ways to deal with resentment. As you go along the road of spiritual and emotional growth, you may find your own ways of dealing with resentment, and of coping with what is holding you back from progress. Use these new techniques to help others deal with their resentments, and soon, you will find yourself healing.

1. Have a spiritual life. Although this may seem to be an abstract concept, having a spiritual life can actually make you more introspective, and can allow you to examine yourself, and know yourself better. A spiritual life need not necessarily involve your joining a religious group. It can involve you enrolling in yoga classes, or exploring meditation. Find ways to understand yourself from within, and you will soon know where your resentments come from.

2. Write a gratitude journal. Take any ordinary notebook, decorate it according to your tastes and whims, and make a commitment to devote its pages only to showing your gratitude for what you receive. Every day, at the same time, make it a habit to write down five things that you are thankful for receiving. The things can be as simple as a morning greeting from your best friend whom you have not spoken to in years, or as big as a promise of a raise from your boss.

A gratitude journal can help you see the brighter side of life. By concentrating on what you should be thankful for, you are also forcing yourself to see beyond the debilitating effects of resentments. You can begin to heal by knowing that there is more to life than hurt and pain.

3. Don’t be afraid to seek support. Join a support group, and talk about your resentments. Talking about your problems can help you understand where your resentment is coming from, and can allow others to give you advice. By feeling a sense of brotherhood (or sisterhood) with others, you can also feel less alone in your problems, and better about yourself.

4. Listen! A common human weakness is the inability to listen, and a support group should teach you to not only talk about what you feel, but listen to how others feel as well. If you listen to others, you might find inspiration in their stories; you might also find that your problems are not as great compared with theirs, and thus be more thankful for what you have.

5. Confront the person. If the person whom you resent, or who has bred resentment in you, is still alive, find a way to contact the person. Make peace as soon as you can. If you can extract an apology, then be thankful; if the person is persistent, then walk away. The most important thing is that you were able to meet your resentment head on.

6. Learn to forgive, even if it has to go slowly. Forgiveness is the key to making peace with yourself and ultimately dealing with resentments. If you learn to forgive, you can also learn to let go of anger and control your temper. Forgiveness can go a long way.

7. Don’t take the anger out on others. You might have children or wards, or even close friends, who are unknowingly becoming the receiving end of your anger. Resentment breeds anger and emotional blindness, so you must be more aware of your emotions and how you express them.

8. Engage in as many hobbies as you can. The less time you spend moping and concentrating on your resentments, the easier it will be for you to heal. Talk to people who have no resentments. Such people are pleasant, and seem to be at peace. They should be your inspiration. Aspire to be as resentment-free as possible, and hang out with such people to know how to let go of your inner demons.

10. Stay away from anything addictive. You might find refuge in drugs, alcohol, or food. Control your urges! There is so much more to life than vice!

Your Goal? To start utilizing these anger management and tips for dealing with resentments. Once you start to apply even one of these tips, your life can be so much more relaxed and serene. Anger and resentments should be dealt with promptly for peace of mind.

13. July 2012 · Comments Off on E-Business Consulting- Advantages and Disadvantages · Categories: Management · Tags: , ,

The Internet market can be a complex landscape for the novice entrepreneur. However, in this age of advanced technology, and with the services sector expanding at a phenomenal pace, one can find a consultant for almost all business related requirements, including the increasingly popular e-business of today. E-business consultants take it upon themselves to help you to understand the intricacies of the e-business world, so that you are equipped to develop and implement winning marketing ideas, to make your business venture a success.

There are mainly two forms of e-business consultants available: paid or free e-guides, or e-business consultants, online and books. Both these provide very useful insights about handling various e-business related issues. Let us check out both, beginning with e-business consultants.

E-business Consultants:

They will help you with practically everything, from advising you on your choice of system to providing help with the installation process. The main advantage of these consultants that they reduce your workload. The consultants will share a lot of your burden. All you need to do is specify your requirements, giving the details of your choices and your budget, and the consultant will help you to acquire it.

Good e-business consultants help you to analyze your specifications and then devise a workable technical design accordingly, plus installing all the required software, hardware and network requirements, in addition to identifying the most cost-effective solutions. They also offer training, or arrange for it, and provide on-going support.

The only disadvantage of e-business consultants is the cost. The consulting fee varies anywhere from $25 to $250 per hour, depending upon the experience and the skills of the consultant. They also quote per-project based fixed fee as an alternative option to the hourly rate. Before you choose any of the options, you need to compare both carefully, and make sure that the one you choose is clearly mentioned in the contract you make with them.

E-business guidebooks:

E-business guidebooks are inanimate consultants that help in handling all kinds of issues related to an e-business. Apart from helping entrepreneurs by way of developing a business plan, you can also consult them to design and operate your website, find out how to get the website registered, find a suitable Internet service provider, and what computer equipment would be required for operating a website.

These guides also help budding entrepreneurs to avoid quick-rich schemes on the Internet and posting the privacy policies on the website. They also provide tips of how to market your business in the best possible manner, in order to differentiate your company from that of your competitors, including the various methods of advertising like making use of online communities, chats, blogs and forums, or banner advertising and podcasting.

Some guides also help entrepreneurs to find safe order solutions. They also provide tips on how to use the website to accept purchase requests, and sell software or other downloadable items. This module also includes tips to fight against viruses, and how to protect the website and computers with anti-virus software. However, of course, they can only solve common problems. If unique problems crop up, these guides would be of little help.

Both the consultants have their own advantages and disadvantages, and it is up to each entrepreneur which consultant they select. The size of the business can help in making the decision. If the business involves more than 50 PCs, then it is probably a better idea to involve a human consultant, rather than a book, so that a round-the-clock support system is available. And if the business has only two to three PCs, a guidebook can be more cost-effective and informative.

10. July 2012 · Comments Off on Lower Back and Kidney Pain · Categories: Health · Tags: , ,

You can get lower back pain from some very simple things. Some of them can be as simple as walking in high heels or maybe you even stretched incorrectly. If you are suffering from a kidney infection, this too can develop into low back pains and become very painful.

Symptoms and Other Signs

If you are suffering from an uncomfortable pain in your mid back or lower back and this pain has been going on for a while, you need to go and see your doctor. This could possibly be the sign of a kidney infection or maybe your back has experienced some other trauma.

If your pain is happening with the following, you can be sure that you are suffering from a kidney infection:

Blood in urine (not always visible) – Burning during urination – Nausea – Fever

So where are your kidney’s located? They are on both sides of your spine, just above your hips. What your doctor will do is press on these area’s to check for tenderness and sensitivity. The pain is going to be localized to this area. It can move up to the waist area if you do have a kidney infection.

A check of the white blood cells in your body, doctors will ask for a urine sample. By testing the white blood cells in your body the doctor can tell if your body is fighting an infection.

Now if you are suffering from lower back pain after you pull a muscle, herniate a spinal disc, or straining your back then you have the answer for the pain. So it will not be from a kidney infection.

Treating a Kidney Infection

Kidney infections are caused by bacteria that gets into the bladder and moves to the kidneys. Those suffering from kidney infections will have many symptoms, including back pain. Kidney infections come in two different forms:

Chronic (long duration of gradual pain) – Acute (short duration but strong pain)

Taking antibiotics is the usual form of treatment for a kidney infection. If you wait and don’t receive treatment for a kidney infection you can end up damaging your kidneys. So make sure if you think you may have a kidney infection, see your doctor right away.

If you have a severe case, you may get a shot of antibiotics from your doctor. You may get pain medication and anti-nausea medicine to be prescribed to deal with some of the other symptoms. The tenderness in the lower back will go away when the infection goes away.

Pain treatment for the lower back

Now if you have a pain from a trauma, this pain is not going to go away as fast as the pain from the infection. Pain brought on by back trauma can be treated by:

Heating pads – Physical therapy – Topical – Oral pain medication

Extensive treatments along with rest are used if the pain was caused by these traumatic events:

Herniated discs – Strains -Overdoing exercise – Stretching – Bending improperly – Back spasms

The difference between low back pain caused by trauma is much different then low back pain caused by a kidney infection, as you now know.

Don’t anguish anymore with back pain. Imagine how great it would feel to be without back pain. Download your FREE report now! Discover the Causes of Lower Back Pain and start getting relief you want.

01. July 2012 · Comments Off on Close Kept Secrets to Weight Loss Lesson #10 · Categories: Health And Fitness · Tags: , ,

WOW!! Here we are on lesson #10. Hasn’t it been an amazing journey over these two months? What you are discovering is all the secrets to your weight loss are within you. You’ve always had the power within you to lose it; you just needed to discover that you hold that power. As women we feel we need to manage the Universe and that’s a huge responsibility. When this happens, we take care of everyone’s needs first and then leave us to the last and lose our power. We find we run on empty most of the time and then wonder why we struggle with weight. Who are we really mad at? Us!

When I did some introspection work when I got sick years ago, I was really mad at me. I was struggling with my marriage and I kept blaming my husband. Then God kept sending me messages, “Tami, this is about you and learning about you.” I was having some heart to heart conversations with God telling Him that it wasn’t about me—it was my husband. I felt like a little kid with my fingers in my ears telling God, “Neener, Neener, Neener. You’re not the boss of me!” And then running away. God, in His gentle, loving way kept insisting that I needed to work on myself. I finally listened! I can be pretty stubborn. Can you relate to this? Then I had the AHA moment. I was giving away my power by having to please others. WOW! What a revelation! Whenever I have a moment where my power wants to sneak out, I just get a rope out and lasso it and shout, “Oh, no you don’t! You come on back to momma!”

I just recently watched The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya’s for the second time. This movie depicts what can manifest when we hold on to our stuff and give away our power. It affects us and those around with whom we come in contact for generations. This movie also demonstrates the power of sisterhood and provides a lot of humor and bonding that can take place.. With this in mind, we’re going to do a little Ya Ya lesson. Ready Ya Ya’s?? I can’t hear you. Are you ready? Shout it from every cell in your body. “I am ready to release my stuff and have some fun.” Remember, clothing is optional! After all, you’re in the comfort of your own home, embrace your body and tell it that you love it.

Before we begin, I need to explain something about chakras. They are spinning circles of energy in your body and govern the endocrine system. With this in mind, they bring your hormones and thus your emotions into balance. We’re going to be working with one particular chakra—your power chakra.

Take a deep breath in and feel the energy surrounding you as you realize the full power within. Put one hand on your solar plexus, which is located in the area between the belly button and the rib cage. While rubbing your hand counterclockwise over the solar plexus, I want you to do Rapid Eye moving your eyes left to right. Find two points on the wall so you can move your eyes from left to right. Now start up at the ceiling moving the eyes in a zig zag format all the way down to the floor. While moving your eyes, repeat after me: I release the pain, I release the trauma, I release the guilt, I release the anger, I release the sadness, I release all the negative emotions past, present and future. How did that feel?

We’re going to activate your POWER NOW!! While rubbing your hand clockwise over the solar plexus, continue with the Rapid Eye movements as above and repeat after me: I have my power, I retain my power, I love my power, I am a powerful child of God, I love me forever. How did that feel?

Okay, now we’re going to have some fun. Now that we have our power back, let’s do a Ya Ya Power Ceremony. Visualize you, me and everyone who you want to be in a circle of light underneath the stars late at night. The moon is bright and illuminating its full potential. We are going to moon….oopps I mean we are the moon illuminating our full potential. Some day I’ll have to tell you about my mooning experiences.

We breathe in our power! We’re wearing our slinky dresses and swaying our hands up in the air. Darn, we look good! Someone starts drumming and we dance to the beat of the drum while chanting the power song, I’ve Got Da Power and You Don’t!” Keep chanting first softly and then louder and louder until you’re screaming it from the depths of your soul. We are the Ya Ya’s and true Ya Ya’s always retain their power. It is done now and forever.

What a ceremony! Thank you for joining me in the Power Ceremony. God wants us to keep our power. It’s His job to manage the Universe so you don’t have to.

Keep up the GREAT work. You are AWESOME!

Love and hugs,
